The Rolling Stones

THE ROLLING STONES

The Rolling Stones group is, without doubt, one of the greatest and most influential bands in the rock and roll history, and the longest ( in time). It was founded in 1962, and 52 years later, in 2014, they still have scheduled, live performances.

The rock band was formed in London, and today the members are-Mick Jagger (vocalist, guitar, bass and harmonica), Keith Richards (guitar, bass and vocalist), Ronnie Wood (bass and guitar), and Charlie Watts (drums). Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, who were childhood friends and classmates, are considered the founders of the band. Charlie watts joined the group in 1963, and Ronnie Wood in 1975. However, in the course of their career, the band consisted of more than 9 members at times, but two of them left years ago.

It was in 1965, with the release of their best-known work (I Can´t Get No) Satisfaction when they reached their first international number 1 hit, and became one of the most popular rock bands.

Up to now the group has released 25 studio albums and the estimated sales of the Rolling Stones are about 200-250 million records, which makes them be within the most successful artists all-time.

BRITISH OPEN GOLF

Once again, here we are speaking about a sport, whose origin is on the British Islands-The Open.

Every year, four tournaments take place, and are called `Majors´ as they are the most important ones-The Masters of Augusta, the US Open, the British Open, and PGA Championship. All of them, except the British Open, are played in USA, where there are more fans and golfers.

The British Open is played at the weekend of the third Friday, in July. It is the third major tournament of the calendar year, following the Masters, the US Open, and preceding the PGA Championship.

It is organized by the Golf Club of St. Andrews, in Scotland, but it is not always held there. It has been established that the event takes place annually, on one of nine courses, although it is more often played on the course of St. Andrews, considered the birthplace of golf.

It was first played in October, 1860. This tournament was restricted to professionals, but the following year was opened to amateurs.

HOUSE OF COMMONS OF THE UNITED KINGDOM

Within the bicameral parliamentary system in the United Kingdom, the House of Commons is the `lower house´ democratically elected, as well as the House of Lords-the `upper house´. This one includes the Lords Temporal appointed by the Queen on the advice of the Prime Minister, and 26 Lords Spiritual-bishops chosen due to their prestige and long ecclesiastical role in the Anglican Church.

Its official name is The Honorable House of Commons of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, and its seat is the Palace of Westminster in London. It consists of 646 members elected by single-member majority voting, in different constituencies in the UK, for a maximum term of five years until the Parliament is dissolved. These representatives are known as members of parliament.
The word `commons´ comes from the French Norman Commons, referring to geographical and collective communities of their representatives.
